65 years ago, on September 17, 1954, a nuclear test site was opened on Novaya Zemlya. More than half of the territory of the southern island was allocated for it, so that the landfill was approximately equal in area to the territory of Holland. In total, 132 nuclear explosions were carried out on Novaya Zemlya.
