1905 Surrender of Port Arthur
110 years ago, on January 5, 1905, the Russian garrison of the Port Arthur fortress capitulated. Thus ended the defense of the fortress, which had lasted since August 12, 1904. By the time of the surrender, the Japanese troops had captured Vysokaya Mountain, which dominated the fortress, which made the position of the defenders hopeless. They ran out of food, although there were still shells. Surrendered 23 thousand people, including up to 12 thousand wounded and sick.
