1945. The liberation of the prisoners of Auschwitz
70 years ago, on January 27, 1945, Soviet troops liberated 7.5 thousand surviving prisoners of the Nazi concentration camp in Auschwitz (Aushwitz) in Poland. In the battles for the liberation of Auschwitz, several hundred Soviet soldiers died. In total, in 1940-1945, in Auschwitz, the largest death camp, from 1.1 to 1.6 million people was destroyed, according to various estimates. The vast majority of victims were Jews.
