2005 year. Overthrow of President Akaev in Kyrgyzstan
Ten years ago, on March 24, 2005, President Askar Akaev was overthrown in Bishkek as a result of popular unrest. After a rally of 30,000, the protesters seized the presidential palace, which Akayev left shortly before the assault, ordering the security forces not to shoot at the demonstrators. However, they had no intention of resisting.
