2010 Removal of Yuri Luzhkov from the post of mayor of Moscow
Five years ago, on September 28, 2010, President Dmitry Medvedev dismissed Yuri Mikhailovich Luzhkov, who had served as mayor of Moscow for 18 years. As stated in the decree, the mayor was dismissed "due to the loss of confidence of the President of the Russian Federation." The reason for the resignation was information about the involvement of Luzhkov and his wife, businessman Elena Baturina, in corruption schemes, but they were not prosecuted.
