40 years ago, on January 20, 1976, Palestinian detachments and their allies from the Sunni organization "Murabitun" staged a massacre in the Lebanese city of Damour, inhabited by Maronite Christians. This came in response to an assault two days earlier by Christian militias in the Beirut Quarantine district, where more than 1,000 Palestinians, including civilians, died. About 600 people were killed in Damour, including more than 300 civilians. 25 thousand residents of Damur were deported.
