1942 Creation of the Home Army
75 years ago, on February 14, 1942, by order of the Supreme Commander of the Polish Armed Forces, General Władysław Sikorski, the Union of Armed Struggle, which had been operating underground in Nazi-occupied Poland, was transformed into the Home Army ("Fatherland Army"). Its maximum number in the summer of 1944 was 380 thousand people. Although from July 4, 1944, the AK was ordered to cooperate with the Red Army, the Soviet troops disarmed the AK units, destroying those who resisted.
