A year ago, on June 12, 2016, 29-year-old Omar Mateen opened fire at the Pulse gay nightclub in Orlando, Florida, and then took hostages. As a result of the attack, 49 people died and 53 were injured. During the police operation, the hostages were released, and the attacker was shot dead. The Islamic State group claimed responsibility for the attack. The perpetrator was a US citizen of Afghan origin. Since September 11, 2001, it was the largest terrorist attack in the United States.
