1992 Abkhazia announced its secession from Georgia
25 years ago, on July 23, 1992, the Supreme Council of Abkhazia annulled the Constitution of the Abkhaz ASSR of 1978, which determined its status as an autonomous republic within Georgia, and restored the Constitution of the SSR of Abkhazia of 1925, according to which Abkhazia was united with Georgia "on the basis of a special union treaty ". On July 25, 1992, the State Council of Georgia canceled this decision.
