1792 "September Murders" in France
225 years ago, on September 2, 1792, massacres of the revolutionary mob began on the prisoners of city prisons in Paris. The poor in the capital, who played a major role in the overthrow of the monarchy on August 10, feared a royalist rebellion and the approach of Prussian troops. Therefore, they began to destroy the prisoners in Parisian prisons, both political and criminal. The reprisals continued until 5 September.
