1982 Tragedy at the Luzhniki stadium
35 years ago, on October 20, 1982, at the Grand Sports Arena of the Luzhniki stadium, during a football match between the teams Spartak Moscow and Haarlem (Netherlands), there was a mass crush with human casualties. 66 people died. The director of the Grand Sports Arena, Viktor Kokryshev, and the chief commandant, Yuri Panchikhin, were found guilty of the incident and received three years in prison.
