1868 Meiji Revolution in Japan
150 years ago, on January 3, 1868, a manifesto on the restoration of imperial power was proclaimed at the Imperial Council in the capital of Japan, Kyoto. The Tokugawa shogunate was liquidated, and the administration of the state passed into the hands of the emperor and his government. The latter decided to deprive the ex-shogun of all ranks, titles and most of the land holdings.
