75 years ago, on February 2, 1943, the remnants of the 6th German Army capitulated in the northern part of Stalingrad. The Battle of Stalingrad, which began on July 17, 1942, ended. More than 90 thousand German soldiers were captured, of which only 6 thousand returned home. In total, the German troops lost about 140 thousand killed, including about 80 thousand - in the Stalingrad "boiler". In addition, two Romanian, one Hungarian and one Italian armies were almost completely destroyed.
