1918 Armenian-Azerbaijani clashes in Baku
One hundred years ago, on March 30, 1918, armed clashes between Armenians and Azerbaijanis began in Baku. The Armenians relied on the Bolshevik and Dashnaktsutyun parties, the Azerbaijanis on the Musavat party. The clashes were provoked by the Bolsheviks, led by Stepan Shaumyan, in order to deal with the Musavatists. The Armenian detachments were armed by the British, who feared the capture of Baku by the Turks.
