1978. The murder of Aldo Moro
Forty years ago, on May 9, 1978, a prominent Italian politician Aldo Moro was killed, one of the leaders of the Christian Democratic Party and the head of the Italian government in 1963-1968 and in 1974-1976. He was abducted in Rome on March 16 by the terrorists of the Red Brigades, who demanded to release his arrested comrades for his liberation. During the abduction of Moro, his driver and four bodyguards were killed. The government abandoned the transaction with terrorists.
