1988 Beginning of the withdrawal of Soviet troops from Afghanistan
Thirty years ago, on May 15, 1988, the withdrawal of Soviet troops from Afghanistan began in accordance with the Geneva agreements concluded on April 14, 1988 on a political settlement of the situation around Afghanistan. The withdrawal of troops was completed on February 15, 1989. In the first three months, 50,183 military personnel left Afghanistan, and another 50,100 left Afghanistan in the remaining six months.
