1953 USSR renunciation of territorial claims to Turkey
65 years ago, on May 30, 1953, the USSR Ministry of Foreign Affairs with a special note renounced territorial claims against Turkey, in particular, the cities of Kars, Ardagan and Artvin, as well as the requirement to create a Soviet military base in the Straits. These claims were first put forward in June 1945, and somewhat later repeated at the Potsdam Conference.
