1918 Closing of the newspaper "New Life"
One hundred years ago, on July 16, 1918, by the decision of the Council of People's Commissars, the newspaper Novaya Zhizn, published in Petrograd by Maxim Gorky, was closed. The initiator of closing the newspaper was Lenin, who wrote to the Petrograd Commissariat for Press: “Of course, Novaya Zhizn must be closed down. Under the present conditions, when it is necessary to rouse the whole country to the defense of the revolution, any intellectual pessimism is extremely harmful.
