Just what Orwell prescribed
70 years ago, on June 8, 1949, in London, and 5 days later in New York, George Orwell's (Eric Blair) novel "1984" was published - one of the main books of the 20th century. In 1984, the world celebrated an unfulfilled prophecy: the planet was not divided among the three totalitarian regimes of Oceania, Eurasia and Eastasia. And just five years later, the collapse of communist regimes in Eastern Europe began, ending in 1991 with the collapse of the USSR.
