In 2014, 41.8 million tons of "electrical garbage" ended up in landfills - refrigerators, washing machines, phones and computers. For the production of some components of this technique, gold is used, but it is not recycled and is also sent to landfills. According to the UN University, in this way the population threw out 300 tons of gold, 11% of the annual production of the precious metal.
