Three women fined for wearing burkinis on the beach in Cannes
In Cannes, three women have been fined for wearing a burkini (Muslim swimwear) on the beach. By order of the mayor of the city, the fine is 38 euros. Another six women received a verbal warning. “Some of them decided to leave the beach, others put on swimsuits,” said the head of the city police, Yves Darot. At the end of July, shortly after the terrorist attack in Nice, Cannes Mayor David Liznar decided to ban the wearing of burkinis on the beaches, as it could "threaten public order".
