The court sentenced three more defendants in the “Moscow case”: two real sentences and one suspended sentence
The judge of the Meshchansky Court, Irina Akkuratova, sentenced the defendants in the "Moscow case" Yegor Lesnykh, Maxim Martintsov and Alexander Mylnikov. Five paintings stolen 40 years ago have been returned to a German museum. The theft is considered the largest in the history of the GDR
Five paintings by old masters that were stolen 40 years ago will be returned to the Friedenstein Castle Museum in Thuringia, the museum's administration announced. The paintings in question are by Hans Holbein the Elder, Jan Brueghel the Elder, Anthony van Dyck, Frans Hals and Jan Lievens. They were stolen from the Friedenstein Castle Museum in December 1979. According to Der Spiegel and Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung , it was the largest art theft in the history of the GDR.
