In the second quarter of 2020, when Russia's borders were closed due to the pandemic, half a million foreigners entered the country, RBC reports, citing statistics from the FSB Border Service. In April-June 2020, more than 509 thousand foreigners arrived in Russia. Two-thirds of them were citizens of five countries: Kazakhstan, Ukraine, Belarus, Uzbekistan and the Philippines. Compared to April-June 2019, the number of those arriving in Russia decreased by 17 times.
