Hurricane Ophelia, losing strength, shifts north along the US coastline
The hurricane Ophelia, moving along the eastern coast of the United States, gradually loses its strength, turning into a tropical storm, meteorologists report. The highest wind speed fell to 112 km/h from 120 km/h a day earlier, reports Reuters. Ophelia was the first hurricane that fell upon the United States after passing a much more destructive hurricane Katrina, which took the lives of hundreds of people and led to the evacuation of 1 million inhabitants.
