Jupiter unexpectedly lost one of his characteristic signs
Jupiter, the largest planet of the solar system, unexpectedly for astronomers, lost one of his characteristic signs, namely the southern equatorial belt of dark clouds, adjacent to the famous large red spot. This belt, visible even through the most modest optics, was steadily observed for many centuries. Now it has disappeared almost completely, and the spot remained - this suggests that the strip really disappeared, and not hidden with a haze in higher layers of the atmosphere.
