Myanmar: 100 thousand dead
In Myanmar (formerly Burma), a devastating tsunami killed between 80,000 and 100,000 people. However, the official authorities, the ruling military junta in the country, cite figures that are five times smaller: 22,997 people. According to the UN, 1.5 million people living in the coastal regions of the country will face starvation and disease if they are not immediately provided with assistance: fresh water, food, medicine, special facilities for the burial of tens of thousands of the dead.
