Stifling without happiness and will
Alexander Vampilov, the gloomy, ominous, unforgettable comet of Soviet drama that traced the fake blue horizon of socialist realism, was Bede's messenger. He did not stay long with us, but his work will not soon be forgotten. He was born 75 years ago, on August 19, 1937. Even the remoteness of Irkutsk and the regional center of Kutulik did not save his family from the Great Terror. The writer's father, a talented teacher Valentin Vampilov, was shot in March 1938 by the NKVD Troika.
