British LGBT activist detained in Moscow for solo picketing
British LGBT activist Peter Tatchell was detained on Red Square in Moscow. He held a solo picket near the Kremlin against the persecution of gays in Chechnya. Tatchell, 66, was taken to a police car, The Guardian journalist Sean Walker tweeted. On the activist's Twitter page, they reported that he was taken to the Tverskaya police station. Peter Tatchell has been fighting for LGBT rights since the 1990s. In the 2000s, he attempted to hold a gay parade in Moscow.
