Yesterday the Legislative Assembly actually announced the start of the gubernatorial election campaign in St. Petersburg. Deputies adopted in the first reading a bill to reduce the terms of office of the governor. We are talking about combining the gubernatorial elections, which would be held in April next year, with the State Duma elections, which will take place in December of this year.

Almost simultaneously, two influential figures fell from their pedestal at once - one in St. Petersburg, the second in the Leningrad region. On Monday, the failed speaker of the city Legislative Assembly, Yuri Rydnik, lost his deputy mandate. And on Tuesday, the “eternal” speaker of the regional Legislative Assembly, Vitaly Klimov, who had held this post continuously for more than five years, since January 1998, was impeached.

A strange story happened the other day with the head of Lenenergo and one of the leaders of the St. Petersburg “right” Andrei Likhachev. At first, the newspapers reported that he was leaving the Union of Right Forces, but the next day Likhachev himself denied this information. Another newspaper duck? Maybe.
