In Italy, they were looking for an African who was involved in refugee smuggling for three years. Another man was mistakenly sent to prison instead
One of the most wanted African smugglers, Medhanie Yehdego Mered, who smuggled migrants and refugees from Eritrea to Europe, lives in Uganda. In 2016, the Italian authorities sent the wrong person to prison, according to an investigation by the Swedish broadcaster SVT. Instead of Mered, African Medhani Tesfamariam Behre is serving time in a Sicilian prison.
