The largest ship of the Iranian Navy, Kharg, sank in the Gulf of Oman after a fire on board
The largest ship of the Iranian naval forces, the Kharg, sank near the port of Jask in the Gulf of Oman, 1,270 kilometers southeast of Tehran. This was reported by the Iranian news agency Tashim. A fire broke out on board the ship conducting a naval training operation. The team had to be evacuated to shore. According to the Associated Press, 33 people on the ship were injured. Firemen were unable to cope with the fire: as a result, the ship sank. What caused the fire is unknown.
