Germany approves Friedrich Merz as head of the CDU
In Germany, the delegates to the convention of the Christian Democratic Union (CDU) elected Friedrich Merz as its new chairman. Stefan Hennewig, member of the board of the party, announced this on Twitter. A total of 983 votes were cast. 915 people voted for Merz's candidacy, 52 voted against her, and 16 abstained. In December, members of the CDU supported Merz's candidacy for the post of party chairman. Prior to this, in January 2021, was elected chairman of the CDU.
