Colorado's first openly gay governor elected
The first gay governor in the history of the country, a member of the Democratic Party, Jared Polis, was elected governor of the state of Colorado. Fox News reports this. Polis defeated his Republican challenger, Walker Stapleton, by 6% of the vote. In 2008, Jared Polis was elected to represent Colorado's 2nd Congressional District.
