Rome celebrates the 400th anniversary of the death of Caravaggio
On July 18, all the churches and art galleries, in which there are creations of the painter of the Renaissance, were opened all night. Art historians believe that Caravaggio made a revolution in painting with its technique of contrasting light and shadow and influenced later artists, such as Rembrandt and Rubens. Caravaggio led a stormy life, did not deny himself a drink, entered into fights, and even at one time was accused of murder. The artist died at the age of 39, presumably from syphilis.
