“Elena” is a drama about a simple Russian woman, torn between two worlds separated by the Moscow Ring Road
In his new, very autumnal film “Elena”, Zvyagintsev again and again touches on his favorite theme - the theme of marriage, family, and its degradation. As always, the family is difficult and unhappy. With problem children, wild fathers and martyred mothers. In the foreground, Elena is an ordinary Soviet woman, large, quiet and warm, who, ironically, attracted the attention of an elderly millionaire, who took her to the center of Moscow, to the world of the modern Russian elite.
