From a Christian point of view
Presenter Yakov Krotov Most cultures and religions do not place much emphasis on happiness. The Old Testament speaks only in passing about the blessedness of keeping God's commandments. A Muslim is promised pleasure for righteousness, but afterlife. Only from the New Testament, from Christ, does the idea of happiness appear in the world as the essence of normal earthly life. After all, the Beatitudes are commandments specifically for happiness, and not just for correct behavior.
