Kyrgyzstan: In Bishkek, the Ata-Meken Party Congress took place
Omurbek Tekebaev during an interview in December 2016 (archival picture) In Bishkek on March 5, an extraordinary congress of the Ata Meken party, headed by Omurbek Teebaev, took place. The party, at first social democratic orientation, is now considered liberal and pro-Western. At the congress on Sunday, the delegates decided to nominate a candidate for the post of President Teebaev, now in prison in the investigative insulator of the State Security Service (GKNB).
