The law on same -sex marriages entered into force in Germany
In Germany on Sunday, October 1, the law "On Marriage for All" entered into force, which legalized same -sex marriages. The law was adopted by the Bundestag this summer, after the Chancellor of Angela Merkel agreed to poll on this issue. She herself voted against. Since 2001, same -sex civil unions have been legalized in Germany. Entering such unions, however, had less rights than married.
