How the Russians landed in New Zealand. Events of two -century prescription
200 years ago, in July 1819, participants in the first Russian Antarctic expedition went from Kronstadt on two sailing ships, Vostok and Mirny, south. The purpose of their trip was to prove or refute the assumption of the existence of the sixth continent at the South Pole. For several months, Russian scientists investigated the islands of the Pacific Ocean, as well as Australia and New Zealand. In the latter, the artist Pavel Mikhailov (1786–1840) made these exquisite sketches and watercolors.
