Misadventures of foreigners in Russia
Martina, a dark-haired, thin girl of about 30 from Switzerland, has long dreamed of coming to Russia. “St. Petersburg is Dostoevsky, Peter I, the Hermitage,” Martin lists in broken Russian, “and, of course, pickpockets.” Martina was told about the thieves by her brother, who in 2004 on Nevsky Prospekt had money and documents pulled out of his bag. Another acquaintance of Martina was beaten in an underground passage in the city center.
