The first full-fledged opera of the 25-year-old genius (created in 1916, the world premiere took place in 1929 in Brussels, the first production in Russia in 1974 at the Bolshoi Theater) decisively cancel the centuries-old canon. Written from Dostoevsky’s early novel, it does not relieve a poetic libretto, but on a prose text completely not adapted to opera music, where people meticulously find out monetary issues, while in difficult psychological relations.
