The strangest feeling that you experience in the new Museum of the History of the Gulag is the desire to smile. You clearly realize where you are, you perfectly understand that any manifestation of a positive emotion is inappropriate, but the muscles of the lips are shamelessly stretched in a smile. Why? The point is the light and unobtrusive, but quite tangible “Disney effect” (if you use the term of the historian Julius Sheps), produced by the museum. The exposition begins at the entrance.
