So respectfully in the old days they called the owner of the forest in Rus' - a bear. His very name was taboo, so he was called “clubfoot”, “brown”, “old”, “Potapych”, “Tsar”, “Master”, “Mikhailo”, “Bear”, but most often a Vedmed or Bear, i.e. Leading and eating honey. Later, the name of the Ber, which was worn by the beast, was replaced by this euphemism.
