Moscow, May 8: Okudzhava returned to Arbat
In the center of Moscow, on Arbat, at half past two in the afternoon on May 8, 2002, Yuri Luzhkov unveiled a monument to “a person of Caucasian nationality.” It’s impossible to believe this, but it’s true. Moreover, at the opening of this monument Bella Akhmadulina, Joseph Kobzon, Alexander Gorodnitsky, Mikhail Shvydkoy, Andrei Voznesensky spoke together, and in the crowd stood side by side inveterate liberals and incorrigible conservatives.
