A day in history with Boris Burda: The arrival of the Olympic Bear
Photo: On July 19, 1980, the XXII Olympic Games opened in Moscow. History expert Boris Burda recalls. Due to the invasion of Afghanistan, 65 countries (including the USA, China, Canada, Germany, Turkey, Japan and others) boycotted these Games, and another 14 countries (mostly Western Europe) sent reduced teams. And not under the flag of their country, but under the flag of the IOC.
