Death is considered to be one of the central themes of classical philosophy. Often thinkers are quite far from it at the immediate moment of their reasoning , or at least do not suspect that they are close. Episodes of philosophy on the brink, as happened with the trial of Socrates, are usually accompanied by artistic drama or a touch of pathos. At the same time, in modern philosophy there is an interesting example of a completely calm statement on the verge of one’s own death.
