When I began to prepare for the present symposium, I realized that I had misread the title that preceded it. Perhaps due to inattention, instead of “The States of “Theory”” ( states in the plural and theory in quotes), I read “The State of Theory” ( state in the singular and theory without quotes). And I thought that the answer to this question is: What is the state of theory today? - was self-evident and obvious, hic et nunc . Isn't the state of the theory now and hereafter California?
