David Pierce. The suffering of wild animals: why do few people care about them?
Most modern city dwellers lose no sleep at all over the cruelties of nature and do not even think about them for more than a moment. The implicit assumption is that such suffering is unimportant . Or, if they do matter, it is not enough to mitigate or eliminate them. Why? Below is a partial list of reasons worth noting. Our perceived lack of involvement is due to powerlessness.

as long as you hold my hands, nothing hurts; one hundred and fifty years of my “how much is possible?” ended with a single room; through all the windows of the world I look at the thought of you and get lost in its scale: any thought about you is dimensionless, every thought is about you; I look at myself through the eyes of a weary listener; I hear a voice hoarse from “how much will fit.” I take all the plugs in the world and plug the leaking body - this is silence.

Cursed Hannah house
Silent Film Aesthetics in *Hannah House The aesthetic framework of *Hannah House* is a deliberate nod to the silent films of the early 20th century, a period when cinema was a nascent art form defined by visual storytelling, exaggerated performances, and technical simplicity. The Smith brothers’ decision to shoot in black-and-white, complete with intertitles, aligns the film with the visual grammar of the 1910s, evoking works like D.W.

Shadows that breathe time: Javanese wayang kulit theater
Author's photo In December, Wesleyan University (Connecticut, USA) often hosts a nightly performance of the Javanese shadow theater - wayang kulit . Carved dolls come to life on stage, brought to life by the hands of the dalang ; their shadows, cast by the light of a lamp on a white screen, are intertwined with laughter, philosophical dialogues and the noise of battles. Behind this was the gamelan ensemble, a bronze orchestra that created the breath and rhythm of the performance.

I hear the ringing of chains in the echoes of “for”; we stand opposite, there is ashes between us, there's a weekend fire outside; you come out, you find yourself in a network my rust-covered hands - It’s just right to cover the sky with them! I was shone with the sound of glasses they offer to drink for us; I’m walking - I would be head over heels, I should hit the rough ground! through the glass your face cuts through cars of faces; I don't want to see faces anymore! poems poetry

Show and girls
The film with which Paul Verhoeven literally screwed Hollywood, and then did an encore after its revision by those who destroyed Showgirls and Elizabeth Berkley’s career, is undoubtedly Basic Instinct (1992). This film became not only the director’s calling card but also a cultural phenomenon that redefined the erotic thriller genre, setting new standards for provocation and commercial success in American cinema.
