The profile committee of the State Duma approved a ban on unusual names for children
The State Duma Committee on Family, Women and Children approved an initiative limiting the rights of parents to name their children, TASS reports . The bill, proposed by Federation Council member Valentina Petrenko, prohibits calling children names that use numbers, letter codes, numerals, symbols and abbreviations. Petrenko proposed to legally define a name as “a means of individualizing a citizen,” noting that the name also cannot contain profanity or indications of ranks and positions.
