Euromonets: How did it start
The first Euromonets appeared in circulation in early January 2002 in 12 countries of the European Union. Then the Eurozone included Austria, Belgium, Germany, Greece, Ireland, Italy, Spain, Luxembourg, the Netherlands, Portugal, Finland and France. Three “dwarf countries”-Vatican, Monaco and San Marino, not part of the EU, but closely related to it economically, received the right to mock their own coins with a small circulation.
